We were on a roadtrip the other day and had our Compass 597 (sierra wireless) broadband card with us. Unaware of the cool features of this device we plugged it in and started browsing the internets.
Well it turns out this Compass 597 from Sierra Wireless also features an A-GPS receiver. All we had to was click on this tab end enable GPS tracking after accepting some sort of agreement we didn’t read (something about privacy ;).

The Sprint SmartView software was smart enough to tells us which port it was sending the NMEA output so we could tell our MS Streets and Trips 2006 which COM port to listen to. After that we were getting turn by turn directions as usual.
Overall we were very happy with out Compass 597 mobile broadband card which also features a microSD card reader in case you need it. However we more than pleased when it saved one of staff members from being deported at the border after he was able to download proof of current visa from his email

the compass 597 really rocks! … and if you are the type who may need to share their EVDO with more than one computer, (or perhaps share with their iPhone or iPod Touch, via WiFi), then check out EVDO routers like those from http://www.EVDOinfo.com/cradlepoint
they even support the GPS feature on compass, while still sharing EVDO with multiple device!
