the compass 597 really rocks! ... and if you are the type who may need to share their EVDO with more than one computer, (or perhaps share with their iPhone or iPod Touch, via WiFi), then check out EVDO routers like those from http://www.EVDOinfo.com/cradlepoint

they even support the GPS feature on compass, while still sharing EVDO with multiple device!

What gives? I posted a detailed comment that included information, links and reliable sources proving that this item is false and based on faulty information, and now my comment is gone. Are you deliberately trying to spread an untrue rumor, even after you know it's not true? JB

The Yahoo! Buzz item you link to is completely mistaken (it doesn't even get the guy's name right: it's Jose Carlos Meirelles). The story is NOT a hoax, NOTHING was faked, there was NO deception, but there WAS some lazy, sloppy reporting by some new outlets, and then a lot of people spreading a false hoax rumor. No one has "come clean" or "admitted" andything, Meirelles never claimed it was a "discovery" but rather evidence to prove the tribe existed. Why was this proof necessary? Recently the president of Peru and officials of Peru's largest oil company have publicly questioned the existence of "uncontacted" tribes -- even comparing them to the Loch Ness Monster -- in order to justify oil & gas exploration and logging in the Amazon. So Meirelles (a Brazilian government official, NOT an environmental or anti-logging activist as he has sometimes been called) arranged the flight to try to get pictures of this tribe to PROVE they existed so their habitat would be protected. While it took him three days of flights to get the pictures, he never said they were "lost" or "undiscovered". Don't take my word for it, check out the original May 30 article in The Guardian: (http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2008/may/30/brazil.conservation), and understand the difference between "uncontacted" versus "lost" or "undiscovered" or "unknown" or any of the other words that were NEVER used by Meirelles' in the original story. The story was misreported and embellished by some news outlets, but there was nothing about the photos or the statements of those involved that was faked or misleading in any way; there was only bad reporting in some cases. The whole "hoax" rumor was started by a very misleading June 22 article in The Sunday Observer (The Guardian's sister paper) by Peter Beaumont (http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2008/jun/21/amazon) Notice the link in the first paragraph of Beaumont's article? It leads to the earlier Guardian article, which article proves that most of what Beaumont says is misleading or just plain wrong. I have been told The Observer will be publishing a correction to Beaumont's article on Sunday 6/29, but the damage is already done. Other news sources and weblogs picked up on his inaccurate story, and soon people were using the word "hoax" or calling it a publicity stunt, which could not be further from the truth. You are compounding the error with this false item. It should be corrected or deleted and any link to the completely false Yahoo! Buzz item should be deleted. It is demonstrably untrue, as the 5/30/08 Guardian story proves. JB
